Operation OpenUP Community Outreach Services

Please host a cell phone collection drive. Weneed your old cell phones and chargers.

Thank You!

Operation "OpenUP!" Community Outreach Services is listed with the IRS as Charitable-Social Services organization.

We are in the process of forming an advisory council and holding town hall-like meetings to introduce Operation OpenUP to our community. Interested individuals could call 317-605-8584

PURPOSE: Operation "OpenUP! Community Outreach Services provides a prepaid cellular connection (via activations on specified networks) to resources available for disenfranchised members of our community - opening the lines of communications for needed services such job searches and finding a place to live, empowering them to move forward with their lives.

We also sponsor cell phone collection drives (working units with chargers) around the community to help build reserves for the many requests we receive for our services. This assists in our local recycling efforts.

Operation "OpenUP!" Community Outreach Services provides prepaid cellular service via low cost activations, free recycled cell phones, and low cost SIM cards to those most in need of an open line of communication for the following reasons:
- re-entry, ex-offenders
- job searches
- housing
- emergency
- medical situations
- veterans
- domestic abuse
- handicapped
- transitional living
- other specially recognized circumstances referred by our Community Partners.

An administrative fee of $10.00 ($15.00 for SIM card phones upon availability) is required at the time services are received and must be paid in cash by the recipient. OPCOS is not responsible for this fee. The recipient can acquire the fee from sources such as a sponsor or Resource Partner on behalf of the recipient.

As a safeguard against abuse of our program, Operation “OpenUP!” does not accept walk-ins. One must be referred by a Resource Partner, defined as businesses, churches and service organizations that work in the community to help recognize the communication and resource needs of our clients. To become a Resource Partner, call or text Cissi Sherlock at 317-605-8584 or 219-221-9979, and register on line at this site.

Join our cell phone recycling program: To achieve our goal, we collect unused cell phones with chargers in our community.

Within 24 hours of your donation, that cell phone can be the road to a new life for a member of our community. We collect all brand of handsets. We pay particular attention to Verizon-based cell phones, Page Plus Cellular and AT&T. Your donation also helps us to support our organization.

To effectively serve our community, we need your help .

Congratulations go out to our newest outreach cell phone recipients, Tommy Thompkins and Antwaun Tompkins, referred to us by Service Provider and sponsor Frank Tompkins. Frank was in attendance at the Mayor's Office of Ex-Offender Re-Entry Service Provider Forum (2nd in a Series) last Thursday, October 22, 2009 at Northside New Era Baptist Church as an employer offering ex-offender a chance.

As an employer of XO's, Frank's information on his new towing service will be posted here soon for those seeking employment opportunities.

We also recently blessed Trevor Richardson and Johnny Bledsoe, who came to us my way of The Horizon House, with an open line of communications via a new refurbishd cell phone with their own phone numbers, enabling them to move forward with their lives.

Operation "OpenUP!" Community Outreach Services serves those most in need of an open line of communication for the following reasons: - re-entry, ex-offenders - job searches - housing - emergency - medical situations - veterans - domestic abuse - handicapped - transitional living - other specially recognized circumstances pointed our by our Resource Partners.

To qualify for our program a person must currently be working with a service provider or outreach organization in our community. To avoid abuse of our program, all referrals are verified. Prospects that cannot be verified as currently working with a resource provider will not be served.

“However, there should be no poor among you, for in the land the LORD your God is giving you to possess as your inheritance, he will richly bless you, if only you fully obey the LORD your God and are careful to follow all these commands I am giving you today.” (Deut. 15:4-5)

It would be a kind gesture to say "Hello!" to the owners, proprietors, managers, directors, pastors and people who run the businesses at our sites when you drop off your cell phone(s). You might even take the time to patronize the business! The business is better! The food is good! The people are great!

You never know what new friends you just might make!
